This extensive online and practical course includes equipment needs, hive making, understanding bees and bee behaviour, bee life cycle, dealing with stings, the smoker and its use, different hive options and their advantages/disadvantages, hive positions, food sources for bees, pest and diseases, hive registration, inspecting hives, hive maintenance through the seasons and much more. The principles and benefits of natural beekeeping underpin the session and choices in hives. Provided the weather is good for the practical session, we spend an hour or so at the hive learnlng to handle bees respectfully. Good reading resources and information on where to purchase bees or collect swarms is provided, and an introduction to networks and resources.
